Here are some tips you can follow while writing blog and meta descriptions:
- 140 to 160 characters of description is better than 200. So keep it short and catchy.
- Try to get into the audience heads by analyzing what users are looking for and therefore offering that solution in the description
- Avoid keyword or word repetition unnecessarily
- You can also try adding LSI keywords to help user better understand the context
- Add Call-To-Action’s while you end the description
- Include numbers if it demands
- Trigger the anxiety of senses of the audience using power words
- Research your competitors and see if you can inspire yourself

#1. Is it mandatory to write a description to each of my blog post?
The answer is no.
Just make sure to give your best with the content by matching the intent behind the user query and leave the rest to Google, it is the boss. No one knows it algorithm completely.

You can write descriptions of any length. However, Google usually truncates snippets to 160 characters. It is optimal length and most writers follow it.
Blog and meta descriptions shouldn’t be seen as ranking factors primarily. Your focus should be to offer legit and accurate glimpse of main content through the description.
